Watch THIS Before Buying a Rivian R1T

We're all car fanatics, but we all need a friend with a truck. That's a fact. So when I started hearing that there was a truck that could tow, didn't cost an arm to fill up, had good power to be fun, and had an interior that wasn't built for a 75 year old Texan, I was interested. Enter the Rivian R1T, a truck that i've thought a lot about over the past few months. Is it too good to be true or will car enthusiasts finally have some decent truck options outside of the big 3? not only one of my favorite EV's, but one of my favorite cars in general. I love both the R1T and the R1S, Ive been able to experience two R1Ts (my dads business had 2 of them) in person and theyre actually incredible

Had the privilege of helping them out in their factory in Normal. Love the truck! Very capable! But most importantly, the people making them have such a positive vibe, it's awesome!

We are probably in the best era of the EV. The time where the manufacturers can basically do whatever they want, have as many motors as they want, have insane 0-60 times, and not worry about government regulations.

However, these vehicles are an incredibly short sighted solution that are poised to become a huge problem down the road.

A big reason i won’t be getting an ev (for now anyways) is the charging. Now i would honestly just plug it in overnight for the daily commute and I don’t travel a lot so the extended range isn’t too much of a concern but I would still like to match my gas truck in terms of capability with 400 miles of range and the ability to tow my bass boat/camper. Currently there isn’t an affordable option. But the biggest nope for me is something I have preached about since day 1 and was just called a crazy person for and that is the charging infrastructure. Look at California, the power consumption is topped out. Texas has had issues as well and Colorado is also having a power grid load issue and one area went as far as the power company literally locking home owners out of using their ac and limiting their temperature in there own home! I don’t want to wake up one day and have someone else dictate how far I can drive and how much I can charge it because of the power grid that the government refuses to come together on and fix. I don’t have to worry about that with my gas truck at least…

Wish we had more hybrid tech developed and used. Efficiency focused truck, . Hopefully we see something like a Tacoma Hybrid on the road and see how the numbers play out!

i live a few miles from the engineering plant here in Michigan. there's SO MANY of them, the workers get a "fast pass" to them but they still have to buy them lmao

Exactly my concerns about the EV mandate - the technology and infrastructure needs to catch up with the mandate, the vehicles need to be affordable if they're required.

I also fear this is another form of "redlining".

The Rivian is cool. IMO, until charging networks get better developed, EV manufacturers would do well to at least include an option for a range extender 'generator'. That or North Americans change their belief that their daily commuter also MUST be capable of driving across country at any time with minimal inconvenience.
Ford, now that they have the MachE and the Lightning, would do well to equip every dealership with a couple of 24hr available charging stations. Every podunk town has a Ford dealer = instant charge network. It would be a huge boost to their brand.

"1/3rd to 1/2 of their charge to be lost" just due to BLIZZARD conditions is an extreme exaggeration. Hoovie only achieved 1/2 loss from Towing a vintage pickup
+ cold weather. Worst case scenario should be 1/3rd loss and if you PreHeat on charger power could get as low as under 20% loss. This is for Blizzard conditions not just frost day. FYI BEVs work dang well in the ARCTIC CIRCLE.
