Which of these will be a LEGO IDEAS 2026 Set? BROKEN CONTEST!

I review the LEGO Ideas IF WE COULD TURN BACK TIME 80's contest - which will give us a new LEGO sets on classic 80s vibes. I'm guessing the sets will release in 2026.

Lego switched their Ideas rules about Dimensions IPs a while ago. Dimensions IPs used to count back when Dimensions was still around. I remember because I wanted to do an A Team set and the IP wasn't allowed even though it had been allowed before Dimensions. If you look up Dimensions IPs now, they're all listed as being okay. It's annoying because I gave up on the A-Team set thanks to their newer rules and now they've gone back on it

I think Karate Kid will win, as it has a current popular show, will have a new season this Summer

I have a feeling ET or Beetlejuice will win. My vote goes to Karate Kid though.

I was planning on submitting a set based of off Killer Klowns from Outer Space which is an 80s scary movie ( its PG 13 ). But the latest Klowns video game is rated M . Which would've led to it probably being cancelled. I also would have to sculpt the modled heads for the Klowns, build everything from scratch on Mecabricks. It would've been too time consuming for me to do it all on my own.

Lego Ideas also allows submissions from retired themes as well

The Karate Kid and Beetlejuice are the ones most likely to me because the former is gonna turn 40 years old this year and the latter will have a sequel this September.

I asked about the rule regarding previous set IPs when the contest started and they said as long as the IP tool says it’s ok, you can submit an entry based on it, so not sure why they have that rule. They constantly make mistakes in the rules and are really bad at enforcing them which made me not want to enter their contests anymore.
Also, they said there will be another fan vote due to the amount of good entries, so yeah, I think they will choose the second set from a new batch of entries.
And yes, as a Californian, I can confirm that we all live in dojos with a wise old karate master here.

I really hope karate kid wins. Plus Miyagi’s house is probably the most iconic location in the highly popular Cobra Kai show.

UPDATE: LEGO is taking down and restarting the Fan Vote because two of the sets (Karate Kid and Goonies) were by the same person, so they're removing Karate Kid from the candidates and adding a fifth option. (Sorry, that one was your favorite.)

It honestly seems like this contest has done everything wrong at every turn, and that opinion isn’t helped by the fact I attempted to submit an entry, was rejected for "too many minifigures" (despite having less than the chosen Goonies set), but then submitted it as a project and was accepted with no issue, and have been ghosted by Ideas customer service for weeks regarding the situation. Between that and all the issues with the vote itself, this has shaken a lot of my belief in the quality of the Ideas platform.

I know one thing though, with Beetlejuice 2 being announced, LEGO will try to capitalize on that IP’s Nostalgia with that set.

As of April 29th there is an update from LEGO. The Karate Kid has been removed (two entries from the same person) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids has been added. The voting will be reset and you will need to vote again.

I remember seeing people getting up in arms on Twitter about this contest being broken. Since most of the IP were from Dimensions previously. Then I just remembered Sonic had an idea set after having a Dimensions pack. Yeah idk, It’s been almost a decade since Lego dimensions came out anyway so I think it’s been long enough that these IPs deserve sets.

Since Dimensions wasn’t a thing when I was a kid, and was over by the time I got back in as an AFOL, I’ve really wanted Lego to use some of the Dimensions molds for a Totally 80s CMF series and a We Love the 90s CMF series. And they could include new molds for characters like She-Ra, Pee Wee Herman, Optimus Prime with the tall legs

I need that gremlins set! The minifigures from dimensions were such a tease plus the cameos in lego Batman made me think we’d have at least one set for the franchise by now. Really hope we can get one someday
