Coronavirus News | New Strain May Be More Vaccine-Resistant: What It Means For India

India on Thursday called for rigorous screening and testing of fliers coming from South Africa, Hong Kong, and Botswana where a new variant of COVID-19 has been found with multiple mutations that have led to a surge in infections. Scientists and doctors are "deeply concerned" about the new variant but more needs to be learned about it. Experts have said it has shown a significantly higher number of mutations. The new variant, it is being speculated, can evade immunity and can infect those who are vaccinated, bringing the focus back on booster doses While this is a subject under investigation, testing and tracking are the only ways to eliminate the variant, it has been underlined.
