This is the same guy who weighted his 6oz steak at the table and complained 😂😂😂
Unlaced_kickz
The fact your using a digital tape measure explains perfectly why you have no idea what size lumber really is.

Shop classes should be mandatory in all schools!
rockchucker
Nominal vs actual. It’s called “milling”. Unless you want to buy the boards from the lumber yard and mill them yourself.
chefbrittan
You told her 6” but that was determined to be a lie too
LawFarin
Same guy that would complain about the splinters from a rough mill 2x4
scottcowen
For those who are confused... Google - "After drying, lumber is planed to make it smooth and give it a more consistent size and profile. This process removes some of the original material, making the wood's actual measurements smaller than its nominal measurements. For example, a 2x4 that's rough-sawn might be 2x4, but after planing, it might be closer to 1.5x3.5."

After 40yrs, never noticed. This video was needed by tradesmen everywhere. Thank you kind sir for enlightening us little people, with your child’s measuring toy in hand.
Lets_Go_Canes
Same measuring tape his wife uses when he boast his size.😂
bigshott
The size is based on the pre-dressed size.
Duck_side
This is industry standard. Has been for a long time
zjuazyz
Wow genius.... You noticed what most carpenters have known forever....
TDSDoctor
Yep... they haven't been accurately sized for decades, it's related to the usage of trees as building materials. They still refer to a 2x4 as such, even though it's only 1.5x3.5 inches.
BaresarkSlayne
For those who are ignorate to the process the measurements are done while the wood is still green/wet so it shrinks afterwards. For those smart good for you who knew this already
timothygraves
The fact that the market for a digital readout which displays the result in terms of fractions, blows my mind. Its like having a snazzy new computer controlled EV, which you can only drive by way of a set of reins.
daveash
Can’t believe he’s brave enough to show this video.
fixedit
Yeah I worked for a wood company.... He's measuring would that was rough cut to the stated sizes and then planned square. If you absolutely need exact measurements you got to go direct to the mill or possibly your local lumber yard
rodgemic
Nothing new there buddy. That's exactly right
MichaelLopez-ysjh
I'm sorry this guy doesn't understand it is cut from the saw mill at those dimensions. Drying reduces the actual size. Any carpenter knows this. Obviously, he is not one.
WestcoastTrucker
They taught me the basics of this in wood shop in middle school. Everyone just lost time out of their lives they will never get back.
