A detail from the newspaper that you didn't mention. It does talk about Ricken Hale and mentions that he is the author of the books "The You You Are, " and "These Values Nine: How I Let Kier In."

I suppose the objective here is for Lumon to convince our central foursome that Ricken is a Lumon employee.

I believe that Gemma is already completely "severed" to the level she doesn't have an outie and exists only in the innie form. So, Cobel is right, she can't remember Mark even if she leaves a severed floor.

I read Milchick’s “goodbye” as being goodbye to that version of innie Mark, ie. he’s being retired/wiped/reset, that’s why he looks panicked when he’s leaving because he knows everytime he gets in the elevator there’s a chance he might not come back, then we see he comes back to work with a new department. Much like there are theories going around that Irving has been wiped at least once before, Mark is now moving on to his second innie life (or just being redeployed without being wiped but I think it’s unlikely knowing what he knows).

Also I think the paper is fake and the inclusion about Ricken is to minimise the damage the lore of rickens books did to the innies. It has less power over them if they can link it back to Lumon.

My theory is they are trying to train thousands of goats to do what MDR does.

Lumon is trying to use goats as slaves. Somehow they want to use thousands of goats in the manner of thousands of chimpanzees with typewriters turning out Shakespeare.

This is something I picked up from Stanley Kubrick films. … clockwork Orange… The orange is not a fruit, it’s the first part of the word orangutan, which in the language of Malay means man. The author Anthony Burgess is from Malaysia. Also in Doctor Strangelove Peter Sellers has a arm with a mind of its own, that’s representing a penis, and at one point, he is strangling himself… So I don’t think it’s strange love I think it’s strangle glove.

While the Ms Huang introduction scene was meant to be hilarious, I can’t help but think there’s more sinister at play which not a lot of ppl are discussing. Is Lumon severing children or did they manage to coerce them (forcefully) into whatever roles to cater to their whims?

This season can’t come quick enough.

-Woe is sadness, represented by a crying woman in a bridal dress.
-Frolic is joy and frivolousness. It's represented by a grinning jester.
-Dread is fear. It's represented by an old crone with a terrified expression.
-Malice is the desire to harm. It's represented by a ram.

So no, it's not canonically satanic, at least in-universe, although it may be intended to evoke sanatic imagery for the audience.

One of the things that struck me when I watched the trailer (and paused to read the newspaper), is that Ricken is subscribed to Kier. It mentions he's the author of several successful books including "The You You Are" (the book we know from S1), and "How I Let Kier Into My Life" (maybe not the exact title, I'm paraphrasing).

This information confirms to us that Ricken is very much a member of the Church (cult) of Kier. There were hints in S1 about Ricken and his friends being potentially severed and living their lives as naive and easily coerced Innies - through their bizarre dialogue, and the fact that his books are successful despite being extremely corny and surface level to any adult: while being absolutely mind-blowing to an underdeveloped innie.

The biggest hint for me about Ricken and co being full-time innies, was the line "I found your baby, I'm the one who found her". That's such a bizarre line for an adult to say, but is very much something a child would say as they look for credit and validation. As we know, Innies have toddler-like life experience and are excited by trivial things such as finger traps, melon buffets, and "music dance experiences".

Could it be that when someone becomes a follower of Kier, that they go through some form of baptism/communion, in which they are severed and quite simply replaced by all accounts, by a fresh Innie personality.

It would allow them to be coerced into complete allegiance, due to how naive and toddler-like a fresh innie is. Look at Irvine as an example, all signs from S1's finale point to Irvine actually planting himself into Lumon to expose/investigate them, and yet his Innie is devout to the handbook, Kier, and the Eagans - at least until Burt's retirement serves as the catalyst for him to rebel.

Another thing that somewhat backs up this theory, is S1 EP1 and the "no food dinner party". When Mark's severance is brought up into the discussion, everyone is surprised, and almost all of them seem very much against the idea of severance. If they are all severed and in permanent Innie form, this makes sense. As none of them will even be aware that they are in fact severed. Therefore, they will be encouraged to fear, or dislike the idea of severance since for them, they cannot be severed (because they already are severed).

Ricken's group (but not Mark's sister) being severed is something I've believed since finishing S1 - and upon a rewatch of S1 and paying more attention to them, looks extremely plausible. This line about Ricken's other book all but confirms this theory imo.

As for why they are severed. I believe it's entirely about control like I mentioned earlier. Convincing an Outie - with a lifetime of life experience and adult-like common sense - to be devout to the Cult of Kier would be extremely difficult. However, convincing a child-like Innie to be devout, would be far easier.

So how far does this go? Is almost the entire town of Kier a member of the church, and therefore severed? What about other locations outside of Kier? Is Keir only one of multiple towns owned and run by Lumon with an adoring population of devout severed followers? If we consider the Lexington letter, then there's quite possibly another Keir-like town in Kansas.

I absolutely love this show, and can't wait for it to come back and let my mind go crazy theorising! 😄

3:30 I’m surprised you (channel) just glossed over the newspaper’s mention of Ricken. It reads that he gave a benediction (spoken bestowing of a blessing) and authored a book titled “These Values Nine: How I Let Kier In”. THAT’S HUGE! The biggest revelation in the newspaper!! Ricken, so far, has been a critic of Lumon & severance procedure. This shows that he is part of Lumon. It suggests that he’s either severed himself, a spy of some kind, or who knows what. It also calls into question Mark’s sister and her odd relationship with Ricken. So so much just from those two sentences in the newspaper.

Here's a thought; the newspaper with the four of them in the car & parade, they look like their innie versions of themselves so maybe that newspaper is just a photoshop effort by Lumon to try coeerce the innies into thinking everything is fine outside and they didn't cause trouble?? Try and ease them back into doing whatever the hell it is Lumon is doing with them in there...

The newspaper was printed in the year 2035 (assuming it’s a daily newspaper). Also, the line about severed employees gaining sexual liberation is funny. Are the employees going to be allowed to get a room? A… conference room? (Sorry bad pun). A lot of the blacked out text is sloppy, so it’s probably a fake paper to calm them down.

Gemma is dead. Shes got 8 hours a day like the rest but cant leave due to obviously being dead. I think that will be the big season 2 finale reveal. The goats are being cloned to see if they can bring back the dead, basically in a rough nutshell

Maybe they pick up the concept of people using severance to avoid traumatic / painfull procedures like we saw with the woman giving birth in season 1.

Might be quite a loop with the outies not bothering to clean their teeth properly and the innies stuck at the dentist for ever...

Or maybe they just decide to put some listening/tracking device into the four to keep better tabs on them.
