Dude, thank you. I had no idea it would be a 10 minute fix. I’ve had technicians come out, upgrade my hardware, upgrade my speed, nothing worked. I saw this video and walked my ass outside. Found the box with this connection. The copper rod didn’t have any green corrosion but looked like it had a rust colored film on it. I Cleaned the copper rod with a flat head screw driver and kept wiping the rod clean. Put everything back together and I haven’t had a problem since. Thank you for this video. You just saved me and the kids so much stress.

Field Technician here (I install your TV, Phone and Internet services), some information here to stop this from happening again.

1. Any decent technician who would have come to your home and seen this should have done the following:
-Replace your Drop Cable (Coax line from pole to home) and made it longer.
-Place on the side of your home a House Box, a literal box we use in order to keep your coax fittings and splits all safe and out of the elements.
-Grounded your drop to your home.

2. We are never supposed to let these sort of things happen. By this I mean a vertical split in a cable, especially for your drop.
+It WILL cause issues because of the weather.
+It can cause a fire in your home or at the pole because you're not grounded.
+Vertical splits like this, can actually end up corroding so much that WATER will end up in your coax lines.

3. All splits in a cable like this should be HORIZONTAL and with a drip loop to prevent water from entering.
-Drip loops are literally just a loop in a line about the size of your fist. It's so there's excess cable to be split back into and to ensure a "weather proof" connection.

4. Call your service provider and have them replace the cable.
-If you have a ladder, the day of their arrival tell them you want the drop cable replaced and a house box installed.

---Fixing this is extremely simple:
-Wire Cutters
-RG6 Wire Strippers
-RG Compression Tool (Coax crimps)
-RG6 Fittings
-Coaxial Barrels
-RG6 Dual Shielded Cable or RG6 Quad Shielded Cable.

A quick fix for this would be to replace the barrel with a new one and the fittings at both ends.

If you have splitters outside that are corroded, could that cause intermittent issues with Xfinity/Comcast cable TV?

I have these updated, but orange cables. Going to try it ahead of Comcast's tech coming out tomorrow.

This is what I've been looking for

I ve been having intermittent internet issues for a while in the last year. but after the last storm and power outage it's been out for 4 days. I even got a new gateway because my modem is 10 years old. Comcast website said it was working but was unable to get a signal to the new gateway ( modem router combo) with the Comcast tech support on the phone. So later today I am going to take a closer look at this connection. it may save me the trouble of losing work on mon. thanks.

does this explain the gigantic lag spikes in getting that will last for a couple minutes end then disappear for a few minutes and come back?

I take all the outside connections apart as soon as they leave and apply non oxidizing grease (No-ox) to the copper conductor. Prevents the corrosion from ever building up and causing an issue. Unfortunately, my problem lately is the local Comcast competitor, WOW!, has basically gone out of business damn near so everyone around me jumped on Xfinity and now I get constant interruptions to my streaming due to the lack of infrastructure support for the amount of people feeding off the service now. In short, Comcast doesn’t have the bandwidth to service the number of people signed up for their service, and they won’t admit it because they want to keep collecting that money despite the fact they can not deliver what I’m paying for.

I have a three-way splitter, Do I do that for each one?

I was having random drops in internet. Switched out my 8 year old modem with a brand new updated one and it got worse. Watched this video, went outside, and removed all F connectors. There was water in a female to female connector. Blew it out. It worked so well that a few hours later, Comcast sent me a text that they fixed the problem and cancelled my technicians appointment to come out. So now I'm going to install a waterproof junction box and clip old connectors off and install new waterproof ones.

I been going through the same thing and this is so frustrating. I will check my outside cables because I really don't know what else to do. I even got the new modem that they have the X7.🤬😤

So I finally got my internet signal up and running. What happened was that if you have a XB7 modem from Xfinity you need to have install a filter in the outside and inside of the house internet line. If you don't have that filter it will make the signal intermittent (come & go).
😉👍💻🎮📶

My Comcast box outside that connects to the house is a little different.

Multiple plugs into one big box.
