An Unexpected Reunion at the Duluth Depot: 46 Years Later

Yesterday, after filming a video about my dad’s recent passing, I had an incredible experience at the Duluth, MN Depot train museum. When I was 7 years old, I visited the museum with my school class, taking the Amtrak train from Saint Paul, MN. They snapped a picture of me in front of a yellow trolley, and for over 40 years, that photo was turned into a postcard and sold at the Depot.

While I was there yesterday, I shared this memory with an older lady who worked at the museum. I even showed her the postcard on my phone. To my surprise, she pointed at the young woman in the photo stepping off the trolley and said, “That’s me!” She had been the trolley driver all those years ago. We hugged, and it felt like such a beautiful full-circle moment.

It was an emotional day, remembering my dad and reconnecting with a piece of my childhood in such an unexpected way. Moments like these remind me of how interconnected life can be.
