I dated someone like her boyfriend for three years because they kept convincing me that if I help them while they’re down, they would help me when I’m down. The second that I started to falter and the second that I needed help, he left me for my friend. left me with the bills, the cat, and took all of my friends with him. It was one of the worst parts of my life, but I’m so thankful he cheated on me now because I was able to be free that relationship. I didn’t realize how trapped and depressed I had become in such an unhealthy relationship.I hope this girl finds her freedom one day

It's crazy that years ago i was laid off and was struggling for a couple months to find another job in my feild that would at least match my pay without it being hours away and having to take up extra side work along with taking a significant pay loss at another job and my gf was only working a part time job making $9/hr along with having to pick up side work just to have enough income to pay our bills with little money left over to afford food and yet we were both denied ebt when we genuinely needed it. But people like this get on it and do everything in their power to stay on it. I'm so glad that's behind us now and we're at least able to afford more than just the bare minimum amount of food that we need for survival

What I hate about these programs is that there isn’t a gradual phase out range, you either qualify for the benefit or don’t. So making $1 over the amount that allows you to qualify can leave you in the hole by thousands in benefits that you no longer qualify for. Most people making low enough income to initially qualify won’t have the ability to jump into a job that actually bridges that gap sustainably so they get stuck in a shitty situation. If they would have a gradual phase out where $2 more disqualifies you from $1 of benefit or something similar they’d be able to climb out of the hole.

My ex was like this. He got us evicted because he stopped paying the rent and was trying to convince me that being homeless was going to be a fantastic option. That we would go camping and fishing and nothing else. When we had several animals that required electricity to care for.

Duh, our government incentivize people to not work. I was told as a single mom "you want help, quit ur job". I was appalled and got two jobs instead

A lot of people can't afford the raise to get off government programs. If I make an extra dollar an hour and I lose my food stamps, I'm now down hundreds of dollars and cannot afford food even with the raise.
