Our Christmas card he following year was the Earth rise picture with the words PEACE ON EARTH. I’ve read many books and seen so many Apollo documentaries. This was well done.

The part about the assassinations brought tears back to my eyes (I was 9 then). But this series is SO fascinating my sadness lifted right away and I was hooked. So well done! It's like a wonderful podcast. Then again, it's the BBC and they are known for good work.

Interesting title. I lived through that terrible year, and I never really thought about it that way, but I guess Apollo 8 did allow 1968 to end on an up note.

The first few minutes are hard for me to watch, and I wasn't even born in 1968. What a year.

As Lovell is entering lunar orbit, a delivery man knocks on the door of his house in Houston.
His wife, Marilyn, answers the door and signs for the boxed delivery.

Not many women get a mink stoll ever.
Especially on Christmas Eve while her husband is flying around the moon.

I'm not very versed in physics so i plead dumbass ignorance as I ask this question.

"Why not do the braking burn just tangent to the moon?
"Set the lunar orbital velocity BEFORE initiating lunar orbit?"
