Republican Kevin McCarthy was toppled Tuesday as US House speaker by dissidents within his own party, ending his tumultuous nine months in the job and sending a fractious Congress into further disarray.

This is how a goverment SHOULD work. These people need to be held accountable and if they don't fulfill their promises TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE and NOT just their cohorts to further their career or fill their pocketbooks, they get removed. Matt did nothing wrong, he's not creating chaos, he has no motive. He is doing what he should do. End of story.

The commenters on this story call it chaos but what about out of control spending, not going over the 12 appropriations line by line and eliminating waste. Instead year after year the do no work the get spending in order. The first order of business should have been committee meetings on appropriations but instead they take a recess. The clock is ticking. Where are the House members? The work of the people is not being done. Maybe the whole place needs a shake up to wake up. Our government is shameful.

Honestly saddening to see someone ousted from their position because they chose to keep troops paid and the government running. All because he chose the public interest over the interests of radicals. I pray for the return of moderates in power.

Excellent outcome. He was warned at the very outset of his Speakership that if he did not adhere to conservative, constitutional principles, including reining in spending, he would be replaced. Maybe the next Speaker will grasp that the Freedom Caucus isn't fucking around.
